Granpa's Heater
It's three in the morning, I believe I'm the only one awake In the town the winds are blowing, rolling in straight off the lake It's getting kind of cold, so I'm going to step inside Gonna crank up the heater that my grandfather left when he died
I don't know what happened, it was getting kind of dark I must have kicked over the heater, 'cause it started shooting out blue sparks And when the last spark died, so did the last heat it made and five minutes later that heater's just as cold as a grave
My grandfather was a good man, left a good wife My grandmother says, 'Son, he's in the afterlife.' Now you can call me religious, but among those sparks I might have seen the ghost of the heater depart If it held his heart, then heaven must be cold I know the heater's up there heating grandfather's soul
